What is the center's philosophy on disciplining children?
We strive to create a classroom community that promotes positive social problem solving skills. At times it will be necessary to guide the children in making better choices about their behavior. We will remain positive using these four techniques:
- Restate - restate what the child needs to do or ask the child to restate what was asked of him/her
- Redirect - redirect the child’s behavior
- Redo - have the child try again or give the child an opportunity to make the correct choice about his/her behavior
- Reassure - making the child aware that his/her choice was appropriate
At times, a time out or cooling off period may be warranted. We do this while keeping in mind the best interest of your child and all the children involved.
